Our Story
"Listen to your instincts!"
Like so many people my dog training journey started with watching TV programs and learning from the likes of Barbara Woodhouse (now I’m really showing my age!), even though I didn’t actually have a dog at the time.
When I finally got a dog of my own, the general thought amongst dog trainers was that we needed to use Dominance as a way of making the dog do what we wanted it to do. Although this type of training worked, it didn’t feel right and when looking at my dog it didn’t look right. I wasn’t enjoying training, thinking that my dog was always trying to get the better of me and my dog certainly didn’t look very happy when I was training her.
"I thought there must be a better way?"
I then decided that I wanted a career change and wanted to do something I was passionate about. So I bit the bullet and enrolled on a Dog Behaviour and Training FdSc at Bishop Burton College. This course changed my life and how I interacted with dogs and people. I enjoyed it so much I also went back for more and completed a BSc Hons in Applied Animal Behaviour and Training.
I have helped hundreds of people that needed behavioural modification programmes for their dogs because they have not addressed problems that many dogs have, just because they are young and giddy. The use of incorrect training methods or complete lack of any training at all can also lead to great stress which ultimately leads to the dog being put into rescue.
This has all been achieved using positive reward based training methods that are now scientifically proven to help our dogs learn and interact with us and create a bond like no other.
So many dogs just simply don’t ‘GROW OUT OF IT!’ so don’t rely on that happening, be proactive and enjoy your dogs from the outset.
"Prevention is better than cure!"
A good trainer will teach you how to avoid problems that ALL dogs have or might have in the future, not just teach them how to ‘SIT’, ‘LAY DOWN’, ‘GIVE PAW’.
They will also help you build a bond between you and your dog that you wouldn’t believe was possible.
